The AEIS exams are the main way in which international students are able to enter mainstream schools in Singapore.
Here are some of the more frequently asked questions about the AEIS/ S-AEIS exam.

Note: For simplicity, we will refer to AEIS in this article but we mean both AEIS and S-AEIS. The answers below can be assumed to apply for both AEIS and S-AEIS unless otherwise stated.


What is the AEIS?

AEIS  stands for Admissions Exercise for International Students. It is the main process in which international students gain entry into a Singapore school. It consists of an examination that tests for the student’s English and Math abilities.


What is the S-AEIS?

S-AEIS stands for Supplementary Exercise for International Students. It is mostly the same as AEIS except for some main points.


Should my child take AEIS or S-AEIS?

How should I prepare my child for the AEIS?

You should firstly gain an understanding of where your child is at currently for English and Math. This can be done via assessments. At Raffles AEIS centre, we are able to provide these assessments. Taking into consideration your child’s age and also the age range, decide on the examination that your child will be sitting for. Your child should get sufficient practice to be able to take the AEIS examination confidently. At Raffles AEIS Centre, we provide students with all the practice that they require.


Is science tested for AEIS?

No. Science is not tested for AEIS.


Which examination or which level I should apply for?

PRIMARY LEVEL AEIS SINGAPORE TESTS

Depending on the age of your child, you should prepare for and apply for the AEIS Singapore tests in the respective age groups.

There are two AEIS Singapore tests at the Primary Level:

  • Primary 2 / 3 AEIS Singapore admission
  • Primary 4 / 5 AEIS Singapore admission

 

SECONDARY LEVEL AEIS SINGAPORE TESTS

There are three AEIS Singapore tests at the Secondary Level:
– Secondary 1 AEIS Singapore admission

– Secondary 2 AEIS Singapore admission

– Secondary 3 AEIS Singapore admission

It is important to note that typically, international students should not be more than two years above the age appropriate for the respective levels.


What does the AEIS exam test for? 

It assess the applicants’ English literacy, numeracy and reasoning ability.


What language will the AEIS be in?

English.


Is there an option to have the AEIS in my native language?

No.


Who conducts AEIS Singapore tests?

The Ministry of Education (MOE) conducts the AEIS tests.


What pass do I need to study in a Singapore school?

Typically, international students should have a student pass to study in Singapore. However, students with a Dependant’s Pass (DP) or Immigration Exemption Order (IEO) are not required.


Is it possible for an international student to study in Singapore? 
Yes but it is subjected to the pass that the student has. Typically, international students should have a student pass to study in Singapore. However, students with a Dependant’s Pass (DP) or Immigration Exemption Order (IEO) are not required to have a student pass.


How much are the fees for AEIS?
Each application for AEIS Singapore test costs S$672.00 (inclusive of GST).
Payment is strictly non-refundable.


How many places are available for AEIS Singapore for each year?

MOE does not disclose such numbers but application for the AEIS Singapore closes when all available places for that test date are taken up.

Therefore applicants are strongly encouraged to complete their application process early.

Completing the application includes:

  • Applying online
  • Making payment
  • Providing all required supporting documents to SEAB_AS@seab.gov.sg within one week of online application

What are the AEIS exam formats?

*MCQ stands for Multiple Choice Questions where students are supposed to pick one answer out of 4 options


Is admission into a school guaranteed?

Admission into a school is NOT guaranteed.


How will my child’s placement be decided?

Placement will take into consideration the available vacancies and the applicant’s declared Singapore residential area where possible.


Will I be able to choose which school to study in?

You will not be allowed to choose the school to study in.


Will there be a release of the AEIS examination results?

There will be no release of test results for AEIS Singapore.


Can I request for a transfer if my school is too far away?

Transfer requests will not be entertained.
