International students currently not studying in mainstream schools and who wish to seek admission to Primary 2-5 and Secondary 1-3 are eligible to take part in the AEIS (Admissions Exercise for International Students) or S-AEIS (Supplementary Exercise for International Students).
The tests seek to ensure that international students who are admitted to the mainstream schools are able to cope with the requirements of the Singapore education and curriculum.
This article talks about the AEIS Singapore and covers all the questions you may have in registering and preparing your child for the AEIS Singapore exam.
WHAT IS AEIS?
AEIS stands for Admissions Exercise for International Students who are unable to make it for S-AEIS in February or March.
International students currently not studying in mainstream schools and who wish to seek admission to Primary 2-5 and Secondary 1-2 are eligible to take part in the AEIS Singapore.
The AEIS test seeks to ensure that international students who are admitted to the mainstream schools are able to cope with the requirements of the Singapore education and curriculum.
The AEIS centralised test for each level will comprise English and Mathematics .
It will assess the applicant’s’ English literacy, numeracy and reasoning ability.
AEIS Singapore applicants who are successful should prepare themselves in advance for a new school environment.
Do note that English is the language of instruction.
Students are advised to familiarise themselves with the relevant curriculum for their level.
HOW IS AEIS SINGAPORE DIFFERENT FROM S-AEIS SINGAPORE?
The AEIS Singapore is similar to S-AEIS Singapore (Supplementary Admissions Exercise for International Students). The only difference is the timing in which the admissions exercise is held. Students who have not been successful in the year’s S-AEIS Singapore can also take the AEIS Singapore exams in the same year.
Should I take the AEIS Singapore or S-AEIS Singapore?
That depends on the next available exam and also the year in which you hope to admit your child in. Take note of the following case scenarios
Case scenario 1:
Your child is 9 years old in 2018 and the month is now January. You can either enrol your child for the S-AEIS so he can be admitted to mainstream Singapore school in mid-2018 for Primary 3 or if he is unprepared, he can apply to enter Primary 4 in 2019 and sit for the September-October AEIS examinations in 2018.
Case Scenario 2:
Your child is 14 years old in 2018 and the month is now August 2018. You can enrol your child for AEIS exams in September to October 2018 for entrance into mainstream school in 2019 at Secondary 3.
Who conducts AEIS Singapore tests?
The Ministry of Education (MOE) conducts the AEIS tests.
Is it possible for an international student to study in Singapore?
Yes but it is subjected to the pass that the student has. Typically, international students should have a student pass to study in Singapore. However, students with a Dependant’s Pass (DP) or Immigration Exemption Order (IEO) are not required.
Payment for AEIS Singapore
You should consider if your child/children are available to sit for the test before applying as there is no refund for the application.
